Strategic Delivery Manager
Overview
The Strategic Delivery Manager will act as a deputy to the Head of Strategic Delivery, focusing on enhancing delivery approaches and governance across strategic programmes. This senior role, suited for a manager-level consultant, requires expertise in programme management, governance frameworks, and portfolio management. Responsibilities include supporting planning, ensuring delivery assurance, creating delivery artefacts, and preparing materials for senior governance forums. Ideal candidates have consulting experience in complex environments and strong analytical and communication skills.
The Role
We are seeking a Strategic Delivery Manager to act as a strong No.2 to the Head of Strategic Delivery. This is a senior role, ideal for a manager-level consultant with experience operating in complex programme or portfolio environments. The role is not about running programmes end-to-end, but about shaping and refining delivery approaches and frameworks, and providing assurance across strategic programmes and portfolios through effective governance and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as deputy to the Head of Strategic Delivery, supporting portfolio-level planning, prioritisation, and execution
- Support the design and operation of programme and portfolio governance (PMO / P3O / transformation office)
- Provide delivery assurance across strategic initiatives, tracking progress, risks, dependencies, and outcomes
- Develop and maintain delivery artefacts including plans, RAID, dependency maps, and executive-level reporting
- Prepare high-quality materials for senior governance forums and leadership decision-making
- Support mobilisation of new initiatives, including delivery approach, resourcing, and governance set-up
- Work with programme and project leads to challenge delivery plans and embed best practice
- Help define and reinforce standards for “what good looks like” across delivery, reporting, and governance
Skills & Experience
- Manager-level consulting background (strategy, transformation, or delivery consulting)
- Strong experience working within programme or portfolio offices rather than leading programmes end-to-end
- Deep understanding of governance models, delivery frameworks, and portfolio management
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with senior stakeholders
- Strong analytical, structuring, and written communication skills
- Confident, credible, and delivery-focused
- Big 4, tier-2, or boutique consulting firm
- Transformation, strategic delivery, or enterprise PMO roles
- Experience supporting senior leaders in complex, multi-stream change environments
- PM0/P30 certifications preferred
