SAP Data Archiving Consultant
Overview
The SAP Data Archiving Consultant is responsible for leading end‑to‑end SAP data archiving and Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) initiatives across SAP ECC and S/4HANA landscapes. The role involves conducting detailed archiving assessments, designing and implementing archiving solutions, and integrating SAP with OpenText ECM platforms. In addition to core archiving responsibilities, the consultant provides SAP Basis administrative support, participates in enhancement projects, and ensures optimal system performance and data compliance.
This position requires strong analytical skills, hands-on configuration experience, and the ability to collaborate with business and technical teams to manage requirements, deployments, testing cycles, and production support. The consultant will also drive best practices for data retention, manage major incidents, support cutover activities, and contribute to ongoing continuous improvement efforts across SAP environments.
The Role
The SAP Data Archiving Consultant plays a dual role in delivering robust SAP data archiving/ILM solutions and supporting SAP Basis operations. The consultant will manage the full lifecycle of data archiving projects—from requirement gathering and blueprinting to configuration, integration, and execution of archiving runs. They will work closely with business stakeholders to ensure compliance, efficient data management, system optimization, and seamless integration with OpenText solutions. The role also includes involvement in maintenance projects, major incident management, change requests, and production cutover activities.
Key Responsibilities

- SAP Data Archiving Implementation:
- Conduct data archiving analysis workshops.
- Prepare blueprint and solution design documents.
- Configure and develop archiving objects.
- Establish links with content servers.
- Conduct archiving runs.
- SAP ECC Basis Administration:
- Regular maintenance, backups, system copies.
- Application Maintenance and Enhancement Projects:
- Analytical and problem-solving skills in support and projects.
- Liaise with business users to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
- System testing, defect management, UAT signoff, release/deployment.
- Impact assessment and solutions for change requests.
- Suggest upgrades in support packs/enhancement packs.
- Manage major incidents (P1 & P2).
- Prepare cutover plans/RFC for implementation.
- Build documentation and catalogues for supported applications and known errors.
- Conduct knowledge transfer sessions.

Skills & Experience
Essential Experience:
- 5-10 years of overall experience.
- Experience with SAP OpenText ECM, OpenText Archiving and Document Access, and OpenText Data Archiving for SAP Solutions.
- Full life cycle project implementation and configuration of data archiving.
- Proven track record on SAP ECC and S/4 HANA.
- Experience in SAP ILM and integrating OpenText solutions with SAP ERP.
- General knowledge of main SAP modules like FICO, HR, SRM, and SCM. • Excellent communication skills.
- Proactive in identifying issues and providing solutions.
- Experience with SAP standard tools like Maintenance Planner.
- Experience in support projects
Desired Experience:
- Utilities industry experience (preferred).
- Experience in S/4 HANA (preferred).
Skill Sets Required:
- Strong knowledge of archiving object configuration and analysis.
- Expertise in residence period and retention period management.
- Technical details of PM, MM, PS, FICO SAP ECC, SAP S/4.
- Configuration of archiving objects and retrieval from content servers. • Building custom archiving objects for nonstandard tables.
- Integration of SAP with OpenText.
- SAP ECC Basis administration including maintenance, backups, system copies.
- Effective verbal and oral communication skills in English.
