Introduction

This role is ideal for a capable Geospatial Consultant who enjoys hands-on GIS delivery, solving spatial problems, and producing high-quality, client-ready outputs. As a Geospatial Consultant at nxzen, you will contribute directly to impactful projects while helping improve standards, templates, and delivery efficiency across our growing geospatial practice.

The role

Joining nxzen’s rapidly growing geospatial capability means becoming part of a team redefining how organisations use location intelligence across critical infrastructure sectors. As a Geospatial Consultant, you will independently deliver small to medium GIS engagements, providing spatial analysis, cartography, data preparation, geoprocessing, and web-mapping solutions that support operational and analytical decision-making.

Reporting to the UK GIS Lead, you will operate with growing autonomy across defined work packages, managing stakeholder expectations and delivering client-ready outputs aligned with established standards. This role combines hands-on GIS delivery with advisory responsibility, requiring the ability to understand user needs, recommend appropriate GIS approaches, and produce high-quality, reusable outputs.

You will gather requirements, design and build analytical and mapping products, publish validated services, and apply governance standards to ensure consistency, reliability, and traceability across geospatial deliverables.

The role reports to the UK GIS Lead and will be responsible for:

· Gathering functional and technical requirements to shape spatial analysis, mapping, and information-product delivery.

· Building web maps, dashboards, and cartographic outputs that communicate insights clearly and effectively.

· Authoring and publishing validated layers and services aligned with organisational standards and schemas.

· Performing spatial analysis to answer defined business questions and deliver robust, repeatable outputs.

· Applying governance standards covering metadata, permissions, naming conventions, and data lifecycle management.

Responsibilites

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & GIS Implementation

· Deliver scoped GIS work packages independently, ensuring outputs meet agreed acceptance criteria.

· Prepare spatial datasets through cleaning, transformation, validation, and structuring activities.

· Produce high-quality maps, analysis outputs, and web-based information products.

· Manage personal workload effectively and provide accurate progress updates to project leads.

Spatial Analysis & Information Products

· Perform a range of spatial analysis techniques to address business, operational, or compliance-driven questions.

· Design analytical workflows that are repeatable, transparent, and aligned with standards.

· Translate analytical outputs into clear, client-ready visualisations and dashboards.

Web Mapping & Services

· Build, configure, and publish web maps, layers, and dashboards.

· Author and publish services with appropriate permissions, performance settings, and documentation.

· Support updates and versioning of datasets to enable controlled change and traceability.

Data, Standards & Governance

· Apply metadata standards, naming conventions, and organisational schemas consistently.

· Ensure datasets and services are documented with ownership, dependencies, and usage guidance.

· Promote data quality and governance best practice across delivered outputs.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

· Work directly with stakeholders to understand requirements and clarify expectations.

· Explain GIS concepts, analytical results, and design decisions in clear, accessible language.

· Provide pragmatic advice on appropriate GIS tools, approaches, and limitations.

Practice Support & Continuous Improvement

· Contribute reusable templates, maps, dashboards, and analysis patterns.

· Support the evolution of internal standards, templates, and delivery approaches.

· Share lessons learned and best practice with peers through reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.

The candidate

Essential Skills & Experience:

· Hands‑on experience delivering GIS analysis, mapping, and data preparation tasks.

· Practical expertise with geospatial data formats (e.g., Shapefile, GPKG, FGDB, GeoJSON) and coordinate systems.

· Experience using Esri tools such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise and common web‑mapping components is essential.

· Competency in spatial analysis techniques, cartographic design, and information presentation.

· Experience publishing layers, services, and web maps in line with organisational standards.

· Understanding of metadata, naming conventions, permissions, and data‑governance practices.

· Ability to gather requirements, manage stakeholder expectations, and work independently on defined tasks.

· Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Desirable (but not essential) Skills & Experience:

· Experience delivering GIS work within utilities, infrastructure, or other asset‑intensive sectors.

· Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise administration, configuration or installation is highly desirable.

· Exposure to Python, ModelBuilder, or FME for automation and repeatable workflows.

· Working knowledge of versioned data, lifecycle management, or controlled update processes.

· Familiarity with non‑Esri or open‑source GIS tools.
