The role

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Dynamics 365 Functional Designer to support the design and delivery of an internal Dynamics 365 implementation across Project Operations, Sales, and Human Resources within a global consulting practice. The role will focus on understanding business requirements, translating them into clear functional designs, and working closely with business stakeholders, solution architects, technical teams, and delivery teams to ensure the solution is practical, scalable, and aligned to business objectives.

This is a functional design role rather than a pure development role. The successful candidate will be expected to define how Dynamics 365 should support key business processes, document the design, validate fit-gap decisions, and support delivery through build, testing, UAT, and deployment.

This role will operate in a fast-paced, delivery-focused contract environment, requiring rapid mobilisation, the ability to work independently, and the confidence to engage stakeholders and drive design decisions with minimal supervision.


Responsibilites

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Lead and support discovery sessions to understand current business processes, pain points, and future-state requirements.

· Translate business requirements into functional designs, process flows, user stories, acceptance criteria, and configuration guidance.

· Design end-to-end Dynamics 365 solutions across Project Operations, Sales, and Human Resources, considering dependencies between modules and wider business processes.

· Produce and maintain functional design documentation, including fit-gap analysis, business process maps, data requirements, role/security considerations, and integration touchpoints.

· Work with solution architects and technical teams to ensure functional designs can be delivered effectively and are aligned with the overall solution architecture.

· Support configuration, build, testing, defect triage, UAT preparation, training input, and deployment activities from a functional design perspective.

· Collaborate with stakeholders to review design options, confirm priorities, manage design decisions, and ensure business sign-off.

· Identify risks, assumptions, dependencies, and design impacts early, escalating where decisions or trade-offs are required.

· Drive functional design decisions, balancing best practice with business needs and constraints.

· Produce high-quality, deliverable-ready functional design artefacts at pace.

· Support programme governance through design inputs, risks, and decision points.

· Align cross-functional processes (e.g. sales → project operations → finance and billing → HR).

· Identify and resolve design gaps, inconsistencies, and dependencies proactively.

· Provide clear functional insights and recommendations to support decision-making at programme and steering levels.


The candidate

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

· 6-8 years of experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 in a functional design, functional consultant, business analyst, or solution design capacity.

· Proven experience designing solutions for Dynamics 365 Project Operations, Sales, and Human Resources.

· Strong understanding of business process design, requirements gathering, fit-gap analysis, and functional specification documentation.

· Ability to bridge business and technical teams, explaining functional requirements clearly and supporting delivery decisions.

· Experience working through the full delivery lifecycle, including discovery, design, build support, testing, UAT, deployment, and post-go-live support.

· Good understanding of data, security roles, reporting requirements, integrations, and cross-module dependencies within Dynamics 365.

· Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, documentation, and communication skills.

· Comfortable working in Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery environments.

· Exposure to Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse.

· Strong understanding of professional services operating models (sales and project lifecycles, utilisation, billing, revenue recognition).

· Experience using Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar tools for backlog, requirements, and delivery management.

· Experience supporting data migration, reporting, integration, or change management activities.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

· Proven ability to operate independently in a contract role, delivering high-quality outputs with minimal onboarding.

· Experience working in programme recovery / stabilisation environments.

· Relevant Microsoft Dynamics 365 certifications are advantageous.
